Denim with Purpose: The HUB's Denim Day 2025 Activities

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, The HUB invites our community to stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence by participating in Denim Day. This international observance began in 1999, inspired by a protest against a court ruling that overturned a rape conviction based on the victim's attire. By wearing denim, we challenge harmful misconceptions about sexual assault and express our commitment to ending victim-blaming.

Upcoming Events at The HUB:

  1. Denim Day Restorative Circle Installation. From now until Monday, April 28, stop by The HUB to decorate a denim square or heart. These pieces will form a centerpiece for our restorative circle, symbolizing unity and support for survivors.

  2. Denim Day Observance on Wednesday, April 30, join us at The HUB for a day of reflection and education. Activities include:

    • Viewing the completed restorative circle installation.

    • Participating in discussions about consent and support for survivors.

    • Accessing resources on sexual violence prevention.

How You Can Participate:

  • Wear Denim: On April 30, wear denim to show your support.

  • Decorate a Denim Piece: Contribute to our restorative circle installation by decorating a denim square or heart.

  • Join the Conversation: Engage in our Denim Day Restorative Circle to learn and share.

Tips on Being a Supporter:

  1. Listen with Empathy: Offer a nonjudgmental ear to those who choose to share their experiences.

  2. Educate Yourself: Understand the dynamics of sexual violence and the importance of consent.

  3. Challenge Victim-Blaming: Speak out against myths and stereotypes that perpetuate victim-blaming.

  4. Support Survivors' Choices: Respect survivors' decisions regarding reporting and healing.

  5. Promote Safe Environments: Advocate for policies and practices that ensure safety and respect for all.

Our Collaboration with Younity:

We're proud to collaborate with Younity, an organization dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Together, we're hosting a Restorative Community Healing Circle as part of our Denim Day events, in addition to a four-week Healthy Relationships series all month long. This partnership aims to foster healing, awareness, and community engagement.
