More Than a Program
Over the past nearly two years, we have had the honor of building and leading the RTJ Hub (Restorative and Transformative Justice Hub) in Trenton, New Jersey.
What we created together was never just a program.
It was a practice.
A commitment.
A space that held both accountability and care.
This has been liberation work.
The kind of work that asks more of you than what’s written in a RFP or job description. The kind that requires you to show up fully; present, honest, and grounded, even when the outcomes aren’t immediate and the path isn’t clear. The kind of work that pushes against systems while still working within them.
And that takes courage.
Institutional Courage in Practice
Not just individual courage, but institutional courage.
The willingness to try something different. To create space for healing. For truth-telling. For accountability that doesn’t rely on punishment, but on connection and responsibility.
That is what the HUB has been.
We have seen what happens when young people are met with consistency instead of labels. When families are engaged with respect instead of judgment. When accountability is paired with opportunity.
The Impact Beneath the Surface
We have witnessed growth that didn’t always look linear. Progress that didn’t always come quickly. But impact that was real, and lasting.
The quiet shifts. The restored trust. The moments that don’t always make reports but change trajectories.
That is where this work lives.
The Team Behind the Work
This impact was made possible by a deeply committed team.
A team that showed up every single day with intention. Who leaned into collaboration, even when it wasn’t easy. Who built relationships that became the foundation for trust. Who facilitated, trained, supported, and held space in ways that cannot always be measured, but are always felt.
What was built here was not accidental. It was intentional. It was rooted in practice. And it was sustained by people who believed in doing this work with integrity.
Holding the Truth of Transition
We also know that change, especially within systems, is not easy. And sometimes, it comes in ways we do not expect.
This transition is one of those moments.
There is pride in what was built. Gratitude for what was shared. And an honest acknowledgment that endings, even necessary ones, are not without impact.
A Foundation That Remains
Still, what has been created here does not disappear.
The foundation is strong. The relationships are real. And the work, if carried forward with fidelity, will continue to grow.
It is our hope that wherever this work lives next, it remains grounded in the principles that shaped it from the beginning. That it honors the Indigenous roots of restorative practice. That it resists becoming transactional or diluted. That it continues to center humanity, accountability, and community.
Because this work deserves that level of care.
With Gratitude
To our partners, our youth, our families, and our team, thank you.
Thank you for trusting the process. For showing up. For staying committed, even when it was hard.
It has been an honor to walk alongside you.
And while this chapter is closing, the work continues.
Always.
